“Prakash Padukone” the Badminton Player, won the SJFI Medal in the Sports Journalists Federation of India, 2019.
The annual general meeting of Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) 2019 was organized in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. SJFI honors the sports-persons for their contribution to sport and for record-breaking reign in the National and international scene.
Prakash Padukone was chosen for the honor for his wholesome contribution to sport and for record-breaking reign in the National and International podium. Apart from awarding him, the committee also awarded Pankaj Advani, the Snooker payer, and Bajrang Punia the Wrestler were jointly awarded the SJFI Sportsperson of the Year 2019, whereas, Saurabh Choudhary from Shooting was awarded as the Emerging Talent of the Year 2019 and the Vidarbha Cricket team was awarded as the Team of the Year 2019.
In the year 1971, Prakash Padukone won his first senior Indian National title at the young age of 16 years. During 1978 Commonwealth Games he won the Gold medal and two years later, he won the prestigious all-England title which helped him to gain the Number 1 spot in the World Badminton Rankings.
He received the prestigious ‘Arjuna Award’ in the year 1972 and has been also decorated with ‘Padma Shri Award’ in the year 1982, by the Government of India.
