The Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) contest otherwise called the MRCA tender was a challenge to supply 126 multi-job battle aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF). The IAF anticipated necessity for around 126 aircraft in 2001, when the quality was at 39.5 squadrons (down from 45). There is a possibility for an extra 74 aircrafts.
The Defense Ministry allotted Rs 55000 crore for the acquisition of these aircraft making it India's single biggest defense deal. The MRCA tender was glided with filling the hole between its future Light Combat Aircraft and its in-service Sukhoi Su-30MKI air predominance warrior aircraft.
