My best "Only In..." moment was when I saw a shooting star while driving through the desert in Nevada. I was on my way to Las Vegas for a conference, and I was driving through a remote stretch of highway when I saw a bright streak of light shoot across the sky. I pulled over to the side of the road and got out of my car to watch. The shooting star was so bright that it lit up the desert for a few seconds, and I could see the smoke trail it left behind. It was an amazing sight, and it made me feel like I was in a movie.

What is your best Only In moment

I've seen a few other "Only In..." moments in my life, but this one was by far the most memorable. It was a reminder that even in the most desolate places, there is still beauty to be found.

Here are a few other "Only In..." moments that I've experienced:

  • I saw a bald eagle fly over my head while hiking in Yosemite National Park.
  • I saw a pod of dolphins swimming in the ocean off the coast of California.
  • I saw a rainbow over the Grand Canyon.
  • I saw a moose walking down the street in downtown Anchorage, Alaska.
  • I saw a grizzly bear fishing in a river in Yellowstone National Park.

These are just a few of the many "Only In..." moments that I've experienced. These moments have made me appreciate the beauty of the world and the unique experiences that can be found in different parts of the country.

I have a memory. I don't know how old I was. I don't know the occasion or words that were heard. I can just see it.

I remember getting out of a heated yellow school bus. It smelled like winter and all the windows were fogged up with the lunch-scented breaths of little children. Mine too.

The bus stopped and I saw my mother waiting in her thick Eskimo jacket. The ground looked like the Snow Queen had somehow disintegrated her entire castle out of rage.

Ploughing through the mountains of ice, I finally got to her. I see her mouthing some words but I can't hear her now. I feel myself replying, but I don't know what.

Her hand was warm and I held it as we walked home.

From here the memory fast forwards. I had now changed into fluffy pyjamas. They were so comfortable I felt like a mammoth with an extra coat on.

I climbed into bed where my baby sister was sleeping, in similar attire. Just before laying down, I looked out the window from which the sunlight reflecting off the snow was almost blinding. The world outside looked like a view into the uninhabited depths of Narnia. It was breathtaking.

With this last scene, I finally lay down and closed my eyes. Here, I was safe, I was warm.

I would pray for this memory to play over and over. It perfectly encapsulates the whole feeling of coming HOME. Coming back to A home. The feeling of having a family waiting for you. The feeling that there's a safe place.
