prayag is formed by combining two words 'pr' and ' yag'. According to the beliefs of the Puranas and Hindu Dharma, Brahma Ji first performed the yajna(yagya) on this land. Prayag in Sanskrit also means 'place of sacrifice'. Prayagraj is the confluence of the most sacred rivers of India, Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati(invisible)

There are 5 prayags.named as Vishnuprayag, Nandaprayag, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag and Devprayag.
