The app may have become unreliable due to intermittent connectivity or Internet drops. In such a scenario, you'll have to address Internet issues first. Once your Internet is up and running, all online apps, including Messenger, should be up and running as well.
A Wi-Fi restart is a simple option that is advised. This entails shutting off Wi-Fi on your iPhone for a few seconds before turning it back on.
  •  To do so, go to Settings->Wi-Fi and off the function by tapping the Wi-Fi switch. If the switch shows grey, it is off; otherwise, it is green (enabled).
If it doesn't work, try restarting your wireless network or modem. This will update your home's principal source of Wi-Fi internet. Perform a soft reset on your iPhone 7 after restarting your router or modem to refresh the operating system and other services, including Wi-Fi. For the Messenger app to operate, your smartphone must be connected to the Internet.
