If this is the first time your iPhone has gotten stuck on a black screen and then won't turn on, it could be due to minor system issues that can be fixed with a soft reset. However, because your device is now not responding to touchscreen input commands, you will need to use the alternate restart procedure known as force restart. It's still a soft reset, but this time you'll use the physical keys. There will be no data loss because no data will be touched during the process. This is how it's done:


  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
  2. Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
  3. Hold the Side/Power button down until the Apple logo shows.

Usually, this will resolve the issue and restore your phone's functionality. However, if it does not function that way, you may be dealing with a serious problem.
