If your iPhone screen is stuck or not responding to your taps, you'll need to force restart it. A force restart on the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus already needs three steps, as opposed to the standard technique of pressing and holding both the Power and Volume Down keys for at least 10 seconds. Here's how you do it:


  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
  2. Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
  3. Hold down the Side (Power) button until you see the Apple logo.

Apple appears to have modified the procedure for forcing an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus to restart. By pressing and holding both the Power and Volume Down buttons for at least 10 seconds, the preceding technique will now activate. the Emergency SOS feature of the new iPhone.
