Located on the western side of the Pearl River estuary in East Asia Macau or Macao is an autonomous territory. Macau along with Shenzen, Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Hong Kong forms a core part of the Pearl River Delta Metropolitan region. Along with major cities in Guangdong, this region is the most populated area in the world.

Macau is one of the most densely populated regions in the world. As of 2017, the total GDP (PPP) of Macau is $71.762 billion and the total GDP (nominal) is $50.361 billion. Because of its per capita GDPand purchasing power, Macau is ranked first by Brookings Institution as the Fastest Growing Metropolitan Areas in the world.

Fernando Chui is the Chief Executive with Sonia Chan being the Administration and Justice Secretary. Lionel Leong is the Economy and Finance Secretary of Macau. Sam Hou Fai is the Court President. The legislature of Macau is Legislative Assembly with Ho lat Seng being the Assembly President. Macanese pataca (MOP) is the currency of Macau. Traditional Chinese Portuguese orthography is the official script of Macau with Cantonese and Portuguese being the official languages of Macau.
