Guru Arjan was born in the Punjabi town of Goindval.
Guru Arjan (15 April 1563 – 30 May 1606) was the first of
2 Sikh Gurus who were murdered, and the 5th of the 10 Sikh Gurus in overall. He created the Adi Granth, the first authorized version of the Sikh text, which was eventually extended into the Guru Granth Sahib.

He was the youngest child of Guru Amar Das's children, Mata Bhani, and Bhai Jetha, who eventually became Guru Ram Das. After the 4th
Sikh Guru created Amritsar and erected a pond, he finished the building of
Darbar Sahib. Guru Arjan gathered earlier Gurus' songs including other gurus into the Adi Granth, the earliest version of the Sacred scriptures, and put it in the Harimandir Sahib.
Guru Arjan restructured Guru Ram Das' Masand's method by advising that Sikhs contribute one-tenth of their
money, commodities, or skill to the Sikh organization, if feasible. The Masand not only gathered the cash but also educated
Sikhism and resolved municipal problems in their area. The dasvand provided
funding for the construction of gurdwaras and langars.
Mughal Emperor Jahangir had Guru Arjan jailed and ordered him to delete any allusions to Islam and Hinduism from his text. In 1606 CE, he was brutally murdered for refusing to submit. It is known from ancient writings and Sikh beliefs if Guru Arjan was drowned or resulted in the death of torture. His death is regarded as a historic moment in
Sikhism's past. According to the Nanakshahi calendar produced by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in 2003, it is commemorated as Guru Arjan's Shaheedi Divas in May or June.
