SeniorIPS officer Abhay is the new chief of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). Abhay was the Additional Director General (DG) training in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Abhay worked in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for seven years apart from heading the crime branch and special branch of Odisha police. The post of NCB chief was lying vacant since April 2017 as the then chief R R Bhatnagar was appointed as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Rina Mitra special secretary in the ministry of home affairs was handling the additional charge of Director General of the NCB since then. The Prime Minister of India Mr Narendra Modi heading the appointment committee of the cabinet approved the appointment of Abhay to the post of Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) till 18th November 2019. An officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS) or Indian Revenue Service (IRS) or an officer from the paramilitary force is appointed as the Director General of NCB.
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) established 32 years ago on 17th March 1986 is the drug law enforcement and intelligence agency of India. This body is responsible for protecting the country against drug crimes and abuse. The headquarters of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is at West Block No 1, Wing No V, R. K. Puram, New Delhi, India. Other offices of the NCB are located at Kolkata, Indore, Chennai, Mumbai, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Jammu and Patna. The Government of India is the governing body of the organization. NCB is affiliated with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Minister of Home Affairs is responsible for the organization. The main purpose of the body is to fight drug trafficking on all India level. Around 1000 employees are part of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
