
Padmashree Kapil Mohan, who had established 'Old Monk' rum as a brand in the country and around the world, died on 6 January 2018. Man behind the success of Old Monk, died at 88. Another legend which gave an outstanding brand with we Indians can boast about outside India was the chairman of 'Old Monk' bottle maker Mohan Meakin Limited.
According to reports, Mohan died of heart failure in Ghaziabad-based house. Their company also produces alcohol and other non-alcoholic items other than rum.
Kapil Mohan was in the Army, retired on the post of the brigadier and he also received the Padma Shri award in 2010. After his death, many people expressed condolences on social media. He was the president of the municipal committee of Solan in Himachal Pradesh.
'Old Monk' was launched on December 19, 1954. After the command of Kapil Mohan, the Old Monk rum brand became popular not only in India but all over the world. Under his leadership, the company had expanded franchisees in different parts of India, besides establishing three new distilleries and two breweries. Mohan Meakin later stepped into glass, breakfast food, juice, and engineering industries too.
The turnover of active Mohan Meakin Limited, in different areas, is more than Rs. 400 crores.
