Paralympic gold medalist Devendra Jhajharia has become the first Paralympian to be recommended for the country's highest sports honor Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. He is the first Indian to win two Paralympic gold medals and was the first choice of the award selection committee to honor him with this award.
Born on 10th June 1981 Devendra Jhajharia is Indian Paralympic javelin thrower. At a very young age of 8, he accidentally touched a live electric cable though there were instant treatment and medical concern was been done but the doctor were not having any other option and they were been forced to amputate his left hand.

After facing such tragedy at such early age he never thought it would be a weakness for him and later he got spotted by Dronacharya Awardee coach R. D. Singh while competing at a school sports day.

He won his first gold medal in the Javelin throw in the 2004 Summer Paralympics which was held in Athens and he won his second gold medal in the Rio Paralympics which were held in 2017. Currently, he is been supported by GoSports foundation under the Para Champions Programme.
