The first king of India, a well-known great ruler who founded Maurya Dynasty, was Chandragupta Maurya. He is the one who can get this title as he won most of the fragmented kingdoms which were also extended till Afghanistan and integrated them into a large empire to be called as Maurya Dynasty.

Who was the first king of India?
He was was born in Patliputra in Magadh around 340BC, the current day Bihar. He founded his dynasty with the help of great economist, scholar, philosopher and a learned Brahmin Chanakya and that too when he was only 20 years old.
Chandragupta Maurya was founded by Chanakya himself in Vinjha Forest. The story behind it is that Chanakya wanted to take revenge from Dhana Nand, the King of the then ruling Nanda Dynasty of Magadh, as he was insulted by him due to bad looks. Chanakya wanted a new warrior with the help of whom he can be successful in his dreams.
So, to fulfil his aim, Chanakya became mentor and trainer for Chandragupta Maurya for maiking him eligible in different war skills. Along with these he also taught him humanities, crafts and all the political lessons that was required for becoming a mightier king.
In the year 322 BC later, Chandragupta Maurya became successful in raising a strong army of himself with the help of Chanakya and defeated Dhana Nand and conquered his empire, establishing a new Dynasty called Maurya Dynasty in Magadh.
During his reign till 298 BC, he ruled and transformed Maurya Dynasty into a large empire by winning almost all the kingdoms ruling across the country and bringing them together under its wide umbrella. Further, he started his annexation drive and expanded the boundaries of Maurya Empire to encompass Bengal, Assam, Kashmir, Deccan Plateau in South India to far away Afghanistan, Baluchistan till the edge of eastern Persia.

The life and other major achievements of the Chandragupta Maurya that lead him to become India’s first King are:
1. His Conquest of Nanda Dynasty: his capturing of Patliputra, the capital of Nanda Empire in Magadh, and established Maurya Dynasty.
2. Liberation from Greek rule: After that, he got help from Greek generals in the north western part of now India. He freed people from Greek rule and established his rule over there

6. The Judicial System that was strictly followed in the administration.
