The name of Father of Indian Cinema is Dadasaheb Phalke, who was a renowned film director and producer. He was the pioneer of Indian cinema.

He was born on 30 Apr, 1870 at Tryambakeswar,Maharashtra and his original name was Dhundiraj Govind Phalke.
He was from a Marathi family, but his father was a Sanskrit scholar.
In 188, he studied at Sir J. J. School of Arts. After that he went to Kala Bhavan of Baroda, where he learnt about various arts like drawing, painting, photography, etc.
Initially, his career started as a photographer. Followed by a printing press. Later, he went to Germany to learn new technologies.
One day when he watched a silent movie- "The Life of Christ", his life was totally changed. After watching the movie he got so much of inspiration from it that he produced his own movie "Raja Harishchandra", and that too from the borrowed money from his wife. This movie was the first movie made by an Indian. It was first shown publicly in Coronation cinema, Mumbai on 3 May,1913.
After his success in the first silent movie, he made many more movies. In total, he made 95 movies and 26 short films In his 19 years film making career. His movie list includes - Satyavan Savitri, Mohini Bhasmasur, Lanka Dahan, Kaliyamadan etc.
He also started a film company Hindustan films with other five partners. From which he resigned later on.
Setubandhan was his last silent film Gangavataran was last normal movie. With the emergence of sound films, his style of film making became obsolete.
He died in Nashik on 16 February 1944.
