It is one of the most common questions raised by numerous people especially in some parts of Uttar Pradesh from past few months. that shopkeeper has stopped taking the 1 rupee coins and not only 1 rupees coin I faced similar problem a month ago when a shopkeeper denied taking 10 rupee coins.

What can be legally done if some shopkeeper is not accepting 1 rupee coin?

The reason behind this idiotic activity is a fake rumor that Government has banned these coin which is just a hoax. By going through this I got to know that even there are few banks in which denied the deposits done by people which are in the format of coins saying that banks don’t have a proper place to store these coin.

This is something which needs to be stopped because such activities create disturbs local market which somehow affects in different ways. Lead bank manager Pankaj Saxena said in an interview that “No banks holds the right to denying deposits which are in coins and if any bank is found practicing such activity legal actions can be taken on the particular bank”.

As you ask what can be legally done to stop such act so you can simply file a complaint to consumer’s dispute redressal forum along with at-least 2 witness along with you.
