Uruguay in 1930 did the inaugural of FIFA World Cup, this giant championship started from 13th July and ended up on 30 July 1930. FIFA which is an international governing body of this football opted Uruguay to host as a nation as the national team of Uruguay retained the title of champion in the Summer Olympics which was held in the year 1928.
13 teams took part in the first football world cup in which 7 teams were from South America, 4 from Europe and two from North America. Teams were divided into two groups and the format of reaching to semifinals was a knock-out.
The matches were been scheduled to play in the capital of Uruguay at the Estadio Centenario, which was built for the tournament.
France won the first match of the tournamentdefeating Mexico by 4-1, Lucien Laurent of France scored the first goal.
In the final Uruguay which was hosting country defeated Argentina by 4-2 and created history as they became the first nation to win the World Cup.
