The automotive abbreviation stands for the antilock braking system. ABS is an automobile safety system that permits the wheels on a motorcar to keep up friction contact with the paved surface per driver inputs whereas braking, preventing the wheels from lockup up (ceasing rotation) and avoiding uncontrolled skidding.
