How do I share a ChatGPT conversation with someone?
1 Answer
Sometimes you want to show someone a useful ChatGPT conversation, such as a solution to a problem, a travel plan or a draft you worked on together. ChatGPT lets you share a chat through a link.
Here is how to share:
1. Open the conversation you want to share.
2. Click the share icon or button, usually at the top of the chat on the web or in the menu on mobile.
3. ChatGPT creates a link to a snapshot of the conversation.
4. Copy the link and send it by email, WhatsApp or any other app.
The person who opens the link can read the conversation. They do not need to see your account details. If they have a ChatGPT account, they can often continue the conversation in their own account, but their new messages do not appear in your chat.
Before sharing, think about privacy:
Anyone with the link can view it. If they forward the link, others can view it too.
Shared conversations include everything in the chat at the time, including any personal details you typed. Read through it first.
Uploaded files and some images may not appear the same way in shared links.
Shared links can sometimes be found more widely if they are posted publicly on websites or social media.
There have been cases where people shared links containing personal or company information without realising it could be seen by others. Treat a share link like a public web page.
To manage your shared links, go to Settings, open the data controls section and look for the option to manage shared links. There you can see links you have created and delete them. Deleting a shared link stops it from working.
There are other ways to share content:
1. Copy just the answer you need and paste it into an email or document.
2. Take a screenshot of the relevant part.
3. Export the text to a document.
4. In team plans, share within your workspace, where access is controlled by your organisation.
Shared links are a convenient way to show your work, teach others how you used AI or collaborate with colleagues. Just check the content first, remove anything sensitive, and delete links you no longer need.
