I’m reading about the Emergency declared in India in 1975 and want to understand what censorship meant for people working in newspapers day to day. Were reports reviewed before publication, were particular subjects prohibited, or did editors mainly change their coverage because they feared consequences?
I’m also interested in how newspapers responded—whether some challenged the restrictions, complied with them, or found quieter ways to report events.
