My laptop fan sometimes ramps up loudly while I’m just looking at the desktop or reading a web page. I’ve closed the apps I can see, but the noise can continue for several minutes.
What should I check first to figure out whether this is caused by background CPU usage, dust, a recent update, or something else? I’d rather identify the cause before changing power settings or opening the laptop.
