Why Does Python Multiprocessing Behave Differently on Windows and Linux?

A small Python script that uses multiprocessing works on my Linux machine, but on Windows it either starts extra processes or fails when I run it from a notebook. The processing function itself seems fine.

What differences in process startup or program structure should I check when making multiprocessing code portable across both systems? I’m trying to understand the cause rather than just patch this one script.
