Can Adding Internal Links Help Google Find an Older Page Again?

I have a few useful older articles that still get occasional search traffic, but they’re buried several clicks deep on the site. If I add links to them from newer, frequently visited pages, could that help Google discover or recrawl them sooner?

I’m curious whether the source page’s crawl frequency matters, and whether there’s a practical way to tell if the new links made any difference beyond seeing them in the site’s link reports.
