Does Claude remember files I uploaded in a different chat?

I sometimes upload a document in one Claude conversation and then start a new chat about the same project. I’m not sure whether Claude can refer back to uploaded files in another chat, or whether I need to attach them again.

How do file uploads, Projects, and any memory features relate to one another? I’m also curious whether the answer changes depending on account settings or the type of file.
