My eyes water when I cut onions, and I’ve been trying to work out whether a kitchen fan helps. On one occasion it seemed to make the irritation worse, but I may have had the fan pointed the wrong way—or simply been cutting a stronger onion.
Is airflow direction the main thing to consider with onion cutting eye irritation, or do onion variety and freshness make a bigger difference? I’m curious what people have found useful in a normal kitchen, without resorting to tricks that make food prep less safe.
