My EV supports a peak DC charging rate of around 120 kW, but a public charger labelled 150 kW delivered only 30–35 kW during a recent stop. I arrived at 24% battery, so I wasn’t expecting the slowdown usually associated with a nearly full battery.
A few details that might matter:
- The outside temperature was about 8°C, and the car had been parked outdoors overnight.
- I drove for roughly 15 minutes before plugging in.
- I didn’t select the charger in the car’s navigation system.
- Another car was using the adjacent connector, but I couldn’t tell whether the two connectors shared a power limit.
- The charging rate stayed below 40 kW until I left at about 45%.
I understand that the charger’s advertised output isn’t a guaranteed rate. What I’m trying to work out is how to distinguish a limit imposed by the car from one imposed by the charging station.
Would the car’s DC charging curve and battery preconditioning requirements explain this pattern, or is there information on the charger display that could help identify power sharing? Before trying another station, what should I record to make the comparison useful?
