My Windows laptop is running low on storage, and a large part of it seems to be files in my OneDrive folder. I want to keep those files available online without keeping every file downloaded on this computer.
File Explorer offers both Delete and Free up space. Some folders also have Always keep on this device selected. I’m not clear on how those options interact with OneDrive Files On-Demand.
- Which action removes only the local download rather than deleting the file from my account?
- If a parent folder is marked to stay on the device, can individual files inside it still be online-only?
- What should I check to confirm that uploads have finished before reclaiming storage?
I also have OneDrive folder backup enabled for Documents, so I’m hesitant to experiment with deleting anything. Is there a reliable way to confirm that the cloud copies are safe first?
