I’m using Claude to review a base contract and three amendments. The documents are readable PDFs, but later amendments replace only parts of earlier clauses. Asking for a summary of the current agreement sometimes produces an answer that mixes the original wording with the revised terms.
For contract amendment comparison, how should I structure the task so the model distinguishes between a clause that remains effective, one that has been replaced, and one whose status is unclear?
- Would a clause-by-clause table with source quotations be more reliable than a single combined summary?
- Should I explicitly provide the order of precedence, or ask Claude to identify it from the documents first?
- How can I check whether a cross-reference points to wording that was subsequently changed?
I’m not treating the output as legal advice. I want a review aid that makes conflicts and missing information visible before a person checks the agreement. What would a useful verification workflow look like?
