My Windows 11 laptop sometimes drops from about 70% battery to 58% overnight while sitting in my bag. I select Shut down from the Start menu rather than closing the lid, and nothing is connected to its USB ports.
I want to check whether it is actually staying off before assuming the battery needs replacing. Most advice I find is about sleep mode battery drain, but I am not sure that applies here.
- How can I distinguish an incomplete shutdown from power consumption while the laptop is off?
- Could Windows Fast Startup or USB charging while powered off explain this much drain?
- Would a battery health report help identify the cause, or would it only show capacity loss?
What controlled test would you run first to narrow this down without changing several settings at once?
