My laptop shows that it is charging through a USB-C dock, but the battery percentage slowly falls during video editing. With email and browser work, the charge usually stays steady or increases.
The power ratings are confusing me
The laptop came with a 100 W charger. The dock advertises “100 W PD” and has a 100 W USB-C power adapter connected to it, but I cannot tell whether that number describes its input or the power available to the laptop. The dock also runs an external SSD, a webcam, and a monitor connected by HDMI.
Could the dock power budget explain the battery drain even though Windows displays a charging icon? Or should I be checking the cable, battery condition, or a laptop charging limit first?
I would like to understand how to verify the negotiated USB-C charging wattage and compare it with the manufacturer's rating. Would testing the original charger directly under the same workload be enough to narrow this down?
