Why Might the Same Blood Test Give Different Results at Two Labs?

I had the same blood test done at two laboratories within a short period, and the numbers didn’t match exactly. The units and reference ranges also looked different, so I’m not sure whether the results can be compared directly.

How much variation can come from lab methods, equipment, or sample handling, and when is a difference large enough to ask a clinician about? I’m looking for general context, not a way to interpret a particular result.
