The interstate highways are usually discussed as a major feat of engineering, but their effects on cities seem much more complicated. In some places they made travel across the country easier; in others, routes cut through established neighborhoods.
How did the Interstate Highway System influence where Americans lived, worked, and traveled? I’m interested in both the benefits it brought and the lasting changes to urban communities.
