The Battle of Plassey is often described as a turning point in British rule in India, but I’m trying to understand what changed immediately afterward. Did the East India Company gain direct governing authority, or did its influence grow through control over local rulers and revenue?
I’d also like to know how much of the Company’s later power can be traced to the battle itself versus the political alliances and conflicts that followed.
