Does First-Hand Experience Actually Help a How-To Page Rank?

I’m revising a set of practical how-to pages and wondering how much first-hand experience matters for SEO. Some competing pages cover the same steps accurately, but they don’t seem to show that the writer has actually tried the process.

When you review a page, what counts as useful evidence of experience—specific observations, original photos, mistakes encountered, or something else? I’m trying to separate genuinely helpful detail from adding personal anecdotes just to make a page look more credible.
