I’m trying to understand what happens when an MLA or MP disagrees with their party on a vote. How does the anti-defection law interact with a party whip, and are there meaningful situations where a legislator can vote differently without risking disqualification?
I’m especially interested in whether the rules work differently for ordinary bills, confidence votes, and decisions made inside a party.
