Anthropic’s extended thinking option seems aimed at tasks that need more than a quick response, but I’m not sure where the difference is most useful. For people using Claude, what kinds of problems genuinely benefit from turning it on?
I’m especially interested in the trade-off between more careful work and slower, longer answers. Does extended thinking help with multi-step analysis or debugging in a noticeable way, and are there tasks where it adds little value?
