In many constituencies, voters hear who a party has nominated only after the decision is made. The process can involve party workers, senior leaders, local surveys, or negotiations among factions, but outsiders rarely know how much weight each factor carries.
Should parties be expected to explain their candidate-selection process, or is that an internal matter? I’m interested in whether more transparent candidate selection would improve accountability—or just make party negotiations harder.
