I’m trying to understand what countries in the region could realistically do if tensions between Iran and the United States escalated into open conflict. Some governments have ties with both sides, while others may feel pressure to take a public position.
Could regional states help keep communication open and prevent the conflict from widening, or would their security and political interests make that difficult? I’d be interested in examples of diplomacy that have worked—or failed—in similar crises.
