Constant Listening or Just a Myth?
Every time a new voice assistant updates its terms of service, I wonder how much of our daily routine is actually being recorded and analyzed. We’re told data is anonymized, but with large language models getting better at understanding context, does that still hold up?
I’m not looking for a generic “be careful what you say” warning. I want to know if there are concrete, documented cases where smart home audio was used beyond its stated purpose. How do these companies handle edge cases like medical emergencies or legal investigations? If you’ve dug into the fine print or seen audit reports, I’m interested in the specifics.
Local Processing vs. Cloud
Some brands now advertise on-device processing to ease these concerns. Is that genuinely a meaningful privacy improvement, or just marketing? Has anyone benchmarked how much data still leaks to upstream servers even when features are marked as local?
