What new space exploration mission did NASA announce in mid-2025?

The mission often associated with NASA’s mid-2025 space-exploration news is Dragonfly, a rotorcraft lander designed to explore Saturn’s moon Titan. It will travel between sites on Titan’s surface, examining the moon’s chemistry and environment.

One timing detail is worth clarifying: NASA selected Dragonfly in 2019, so it was not a brand-new mission announced in 2025. Mid-2025 coverage concerned updates on the mission’s development and plans for its future launch.

Dragonfly is notable because Titan’s dense atmosphere and low gravity make powered flight practical. The nuclear-powered rotorcraft is intended to investigate whether the moon’s complex organic chemistry could offer clues about conditions that might support life.
