The credit for discovering the first dinosaur fossil frequently goes to Mary Anning, an English fossil gatherer and beginner scientist from the mid nineteenth century. While numerous people might have found dinosaur fossils preceding her, Anning's disclosures were among those quick to be experimentally recorded and perceived by established researchers.

Anning's commitments didn't stop there. She proceeded to find the principal complete Plesiosaurus skeleton in 1823, and later a Pterosaur, a flying reptile, in 1828.
