There isn’t one single “newest” improvement across the whole automotive industry, but a standout recent development is megawatt-level EV charging.

In March 2025, BYD unveiled its BYD Super e-Platform, a high-voltage charging system designed to deliver up to 1,000 kW. The company said compatible vehicles could add up to 400 kilometres of range in about five minutes under suitable conditions.

That figure is a manufacturer claim, not a typical result for every EV or charging station. Actual charging speed depends on the vehicle, charger, battery temperature, and other conditions. Still, the announcement points to a broader push for a high-voltage charging architecture that could make charging stops shorter as the technology becomes more widely available.
