The threat picture changes quickly, but many current attacks target familiar weak points: people, stolen credentials, exposed systems, and trusted software. A few patterns are especially worth watching:

  • AI-assisted phishing: Attackers can produce convincing, personalized messages at scale. Voice and video impersonation can also make fake requests for money or account access harder to spot.
  • Ransomware and data theft: Criminal groups may steal data and threaten to publish it, even when they cannot encrypt a victim’s systems. That puts pressure on organizations to pay.
  • Credential and session theft: Infostealer malware, password reuse, and stolen browser session tokens can let attackers sign in as a real user, sometimes bypassing ordinary password checks.
  • Cloud and SaaS account abuse: Compromised accounts, overly broad permissions, and malicious app integrations can expose data without a traditional network breach.
  • Software supply-chain attacks: A trusted vendor, update, or software component can become the route into many organizations at once.
  • Exploitation of exposed systems: Unpatched internet-facing devices and services are attractive targets, particularly when attackers can automate scanning for known weaknesses.

For most people, the practical priorities are using unique passwords with a password manager, enabling phishing-resistant multifactor authentication where available, installing updates promptly, and verifying unusual payment or account-access requests through a separate channel. Organizations should also review account permissions, protect backups, and keep an eye on internet-facing devices.

Specific campaigns and vulnerabilities change constantly, so check trusted security advisories for alerts affecting the products you use.
