Who are the rising stars in the current political landscape?

There isn’t one worldwide shortlist: a politician gaining momentum in one country may be barely known elsewhere. “Rising star” can mean a strong election result, a fast-growing public profile, or influence inside a party—not necessarily a newcomer to politics.

Looking at recent electoral cycles, several figures have drawn international attention: Sri Lanka’s Anura Kumara Dissanayake, whose 2024 presidential win marked a major shift in the country’s politics; Britain’s Kemi Badenoch, who became Conservative Party leader in 2024; and U.S. representative Sarah McBride, whose election brought her national attention. Claudia Sheinbaum and Javier Milei also rose rapidly through high-profile campaigns, though both moved quickly into top executive roles.
