Renaissance is a European historical era that spanned from the fourteenth century to the seventeenth century. This period was rich in new culture and ideas as it saw a revival of classical education for humanism.
Started in Italy and later moved to other parts of Europe. Some of these elements include the Black Death, the Crusades, and the discovery of printing presses among others.
- The Black Death that happened in 14th century Europe saw millions of people die, including those involved in business activities, and led to disorganization within the society. Consequently, it culminated in an era of probing and transformation that bred a conducive environment for innovations.
- The crusades that happened during the 11th to 13th century period opened Europeans up to foreign cultures and ideas from the Middle East. This gave rise once again to curiosity and desire for learning as well.
- Printing Press was invented in the 15th century which increased the ability to print at faster rates as well as reduce the costs. This fostered the dissemination of knowledge and ideas in Europe.
- The Renaissance was a period marked by tremendous creativity in art, literature, science, and philosophy. One would mention Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, William Shakespeare, and Galileo Galilei among others the renowned Renaissance masters.
There were several reasons for the end of the Renaissance such as the Protestant Reformation, the thirty years’ War, and the emergence of scientific materialism. But, this legacy still inspires people all over the globe nowadays.
