In 2023, the Iranian female activist Narges Mohammadi received the Nobel Peace Prize as a recognition of her campaign against the oppression of women in Iran and for the promotion of human rights and freedom for everyone. She is the second winner of a Nobel prize from iran after Shirin Ebadi was awarded her prize in 2003. Mohammadi is still in prison in Iran as at the time when the prize was announced.

 

  • For more than twenty years, Mohammadi is activist of human rights. Additionally, she is one of the key players behind the establishment of “The Defenders of Human Rights Centre” in Iran and “The Campaign for Equality”. Throughout her life she has done everything possible to make sure that a voice was heard for women, children and political prisoners. In addition, she is a loud voice in condemning Iran’s human rights offenses.
     
  • Indeed, Mohammadi has had several arrets and jailings just because of her struggles. Currently, she has a 10 year sentence on conviction of “Illegal Organization” and ‘Propaganda’.
     
  • Norwegian Nobel Committee rewarded the Noble peace price to Mohammadi “for her brave fight for the rights of independence and expression.” The committee also added “on behalf of millions of people who last year were demonstrating against the policy of discrimination and violation of Women’s rights set by
