The current Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog is “Amitabh Kant”. He was appointed as the CEO on February 16, 2016, and holds the position till June 30, 2019.

Initially, he was appointed at the tenure of two years, but the Personnel Ministry increased his tenure by one more year. NITI Aayog means, National Institution for Transforming India. NITI Aayog was established by the government with the aim to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, as well as, including the involvement of the State Governments of India in the Economic Policymaking process. The various projects have been initiated under NITI Aayog like AMRUT, Digital India, Medical Education Reform, Atal Innovation Mission, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and many others.
The NITI Aayog was formed in 2015, to replace the Planning Commission. The Chairman of NITI Aayog is the Prime Minister of India. The main purpose of establishing NITI Aayog was to invite the Global Policy Makers, Experts, and administrators to India to make good governance. Basically, the NITI Aayog was established in India to put forward the rapid evolution of India, not the gradual evolution.
All the Chief Ministers of each State and Lieutenant Governors of Union Territory (except Delhi and Pondicherry) are the members of Governing Council. Amitabh Kant the CEO of NITI Aayog, is an IAS officer of Kerala Cadre in 1980 batch. Before the CEO of NITI Aayog, he was the Secretary of Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.
He is also the main initiator of many new campaigns like Make in India, Incredible India, Startup India, and Gods Own Country. These campaigns won many other International Awards and achieved Infrastructural Development, Product Enhancement, Private-Public Partnership, as well as, Branding based on thorough Market Research. He was also the National Project Director of the Rural Tourism Project of UNDP.
