The ‘Almatti Dam’ is built on ‘Krishna River’ in Karnataka. The dam is a Hydroelectric Project in the North Karnataka, which was completed in July 2005.

The dam is built in ‘Bijapur’ district of Karnataka. Annual the electricity production through the dam is 560 MU, and having a 290 MW of power station at the one side of the dam. The dam is equipped with vertical Kaplan turbines, which involves five generators of 55MW and one generator of 15MW power. The water storage capacity of the dam is 123.08 TMC at 519 meters MSL. Whereas, after the dispute between, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra, the original height of the dam was decided by the Supreme Court of India to a maximum of 524 meters. Due to which the water storage capacity increased to about 200 TMC. The dam is housed with a total of 26 different Radial Spillway Gates.
From June month to November the dam is having its Filling Period and after that from November month to May the dam is having its Depletion Period. The dam generates power and then the water is released towards the ‘Narayanpur Reservoir’, to fulfill the needs of Irrigation in the state. The dam area is filled with many tourist attractions and picnic spots as well. The nearby area of Almatti Dam is having about 7 Terrace Gardens for picnic spots and having Musical Fountains, Boating Facilities, and many more. The garden is named as ‘Rock Hill’ and also have an artificial forest which is having many wildlife animals made up of Ceramic. The nearby area also has many Temples, Mosques, and Resorts too for different types of tourists.

The dam was built under the management of Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL). The corporation’s work was commendable which not only reduces the huge amount of expenditure over building the dam but also completed the construction work before time. The initial proposed projected budget was Rs. 14.70 Billion which was reduced by KPCL to about 50 percent and finished the work in 6.74 Billion.
