Matters of Discretion: An Autobiography would be an autobiography authored by past Indian Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral, and this is the sole autobiography published by a prior Indian Prime Minister as of now.

Inder Kumar Gujral was the 12th Prime Minister of India, serving from April 1997 to March 1998. He had been an Indian politician, diplomat, and independence campaigner. As an undergraduate, he was motivated by patriotic beliefs and entered the All India Students Federation as well as the Communist Party of India. He was arrested for his participation in the Quit India campaign. Following independence, he entered the Indian National Congress party and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1964.

During the crisis, he was the Minister of Information and Broadcasting. He was nominated India's Ambassador to the Soviet Union in 1976. In 1996, he was appointed Minister of External Affairs in the Deve Gowda government, where he created the Gujral philosophy. In 1997, he became India's 12th Prime Minister. His term was shorter than a year. In 1998, he stepped down from all governmental posts. He expired in 2012, at the age of 92, after being hospitalized for a long illness.
