Nehru went on to become Prime Minister of India for 17 years in a row, gaining 4 general votes in the line. His term came to an end in May 1964, when he died.
Jawaharlal Nehru was an anti-colonial patriot, secular philosopher, democratic socialist, and writer who dominated Indian politics in the mid-twentieth century. In the 1930s and 1940s, Nehru was a key figure in the Indian nationalist movement. He was India's prime minister for 17 years after the country gained independence in 1947. During the 1950s, Nehru advocated representative government, secularism, and technology and science, greatly impacting India's development as a modern nation. In foreign affairs, he kept India out of the Cold War's two blocs. His novels penned in imprisonment have been read all over the globe, and he is a well-known author.

Jawaharlal Nehru was born in England and educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge, as well as receiving legal training at the Inner Temple. He was the son of Motilal Nehru, a notable solicitor and Indian patriot. He became a lawyer, moved to India, and registered in the Allahabad High Court, where he gradually developed an interest in public affairs, which subsequently turned into a full-time job. He entered the Indian National Congress and ascended through the ranks to become the leader of a reformist section and then the Congress in the 1920s, obtaining Mahatma Gandhi's endorsement and designating Nehru as his political heir. In 1929, as president of the Congress, Nehru campaigned for full autonomy from the British Raj.
