  • The term RAM refers to random-access memory. Your personal computer RAM is short-term memory that stores data just while the processor need it. This should not be mistaken with long-term data stored on your hard disc, which remains accessible even after your computer has been switched off. All of the data that your computer's processor requires to play a game or watch a movie is saved in RAM whenever you play a game from your hard drive or stream a movie from the Internet. This allows your processor to process it rapidly.
  • When you finish playing a game or viewing a movie and shut it down, the CPU no longer need that data and replaces it with the next task you give it. If the processor doesn't have enough RAM to complete the tasks you ask it to, your computer will slow down.
